A teenager has been arrested by police investigating incidents of violent disorder in Phoenix Park last week.

The man, aged in his twenties, will appear in court on Monday.

On Monday, June 17, at around 11:30 p.m., gardaí received an anonymous call regarding an incident at Phoenix Park and attended the scene.

A search of the area was carried out but no one came forward to the gardaí.

Following further investigation, gardaí identified a suspect.

The man was arrested on suspicion of committing an offense under the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Person Act 1997 and detained at a Garda station in north Dublin.

He has been charged and will appear in criminal court on Monday morning.

Gardaí said investigations were ongoing.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said they take any hate crime or incident seriously and reported incidents are professionally investigated.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with direct knowledge of or who has been a victim of such an incident in the area to contact them either at Cabra Garda Station on 01-666 7400, at the National Community Engagement Office Diversity Unit Garda on 01-666 3150 or through an advocacy group.

Following reports of the alleged incident, gardaí said they had been in contact with LGBTQIA+ advocacy groups.
