A Carver County teenager was arrested after he tried to attack another person with a knife, then barricaded himself in a room until police were able to resolve the situation.

According to Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud, on June 21 at 7:30 p.m., authorities responded to a call of two teenagers fighting at a residence in the 3000 block of West 78th Street in Chanhassen.

Officers responding to the scene learned that a 14-year-old woman had a knife and was chasing a 15-year-old man while threatening to stab him.

When officers arrived, they found the woman at the top of a staircase, who then barricaded herself in a room after seeing them. The man had previously locked himself in another room for safety reasons.

Authorities evacuated the building and attempted to negotiate with the remaining suspect for 40 minutes, but she did not obey orders.

The officers then “saturated the room” with pepper balls, causing her to be taken out of the room and taken into custody. A knife was found on site.

She has since been transported to the Carver County Juvenile Detention Center and faces charges of second-degree assault, threats of violence and domestic violence.

She remains in custody awaiting a court hearing.
