Teen arrested after 150 mph chase in Santa Rosa County

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. — An 18-year-old Louisiana man was arrested after a high-speed chase Wednesday evening in Santa Rosa County. It ended with an arrest in Baldwin County.

Romero Nail is being held in the Baldwin County Jail on a charge of fleeing, and additional charges will be filed upon completion of the investigation.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Florida State Trooper observed a black Ford Mustang driving recklessly at a speed of 130 miles per hour on westbound Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 35.

According to the release, the trooper radioed other troopers and another trooper near Mile Marker 22 observed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

That's when the driver accelerated from nearly 130 mph to 150 mph or more and began fleeing, passing vehicles on the north and south shoulders.

The release states, “After exiting at Mile Marker 17 on Scenic Highway, officers lost sight and began to disengage from the pursuit and search the area for the vehicle. With the help of a citizen motorist, one of the officers located the parked Mustang. in a driveway just off Scenic Court and as troopers approached, the driver of the vehicle aggressively accelerated a few feet and drove down an embankment back onto Scenic Highway.

According to FHP, the driver fled the scene recklessly. The soldiers were able to re-engage the Mustang for a brief moment before disengaging a second time.

“Even with the assistance of local citizens, we were unable to continue our pursuit, but we were able to track the vehicle as it traveled out of state,” the FHP said.

The black Ford Mustang was later found at a gas station in Baldwin County, where a local deputy was able to conduct a traffic stop and arrest the driver, according to the release.

The Florida Highway Patrol issued an arrest warrant for the driver, Nail, who was arrested on the warrant by the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.
