There really is no limit to what you can achieve if you work hard enough. Aurora Sky Castner is a Texas girl who was born in the Galveston County Jail and made history by getting into Harvard. She spoke to the Courier and said: “There was something satisfying about getting all A's and having that accomplishment. The grades meant a lot to me.” The teenager's mother was still in prison when she gave birth. Fortunately, her father came to pick her up and raised her on his own. Since then, his mother has played no role in his life.

Castner began her application to Harvard University with the phrase “I was born in prison.” The talented girl was accepted into the Ivy League through early action and wants to study law. Although she moved around a lot with her father, she was mostly always in Montgomery County. Staff members at Reaves Elementary School in Conroe saw her potential, after which she received guidance from CISD's Project Mentoring Program. Castner was mentored by Mona Hamby, who played a pivotal role in helping her get into Harvard.
