Teen among at least 10 injured in Wisconsin shooting, police say

Gunshots rang out at an apartment building in Madison, Wisconsin, on Sunday, leaving at least 10 people, including a teenager, injured, police said.

Officers were responding to a party on the roof of the Lux Apartments around 12:45 a.m. when dispatch alerted them to a shooting, officials said. Dozens of people were trying to flee the building when they arrived. A teenager suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was bleeding in the street, Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference, according to CBS News affiliate WISC.

“Officers were advised that there were likely more victims in the building,” Barnes said at the news conference. “As a result, Madison police officers bravely climbed 12 stories to reach the roof, unaware of what they might encounter. They found people in various stages of distress, and some even hiding in a maintenance closet in an attempt to escape. find safety.”

He said it was a miracle no one died. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 23, authorities said. Not all of the injuries were from gunshot wounds, but local firefighters said they transported five victims with gunshot wounds to the hospital.

Some of the injured went to the hospital themselves. Police said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Police said the shooting appeared to be a targeted incident. Officers have not yet made any arrests. Authorities also have not released a description of the shooter. Detectives are still speaking with victims and witnesses and reviewing digital evidence, authorities said.
