Teen accused of brandishing gun at Nashville Kroger, police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A teenager is accused of waving a gun in the air while inside and outside of Kroger in Nashville's Haynes Park neighborhood, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Robert Turner, 18, was arrested about a mile from the Kroger on Clarksville Pike after police were called to the area on a report of a person with a weapon. According to the arrest report, Turner told police he was at Kroger when a group of people pointed a gun at him. He said he pulled out his gun to protect himself.

Witnesses told officers they saw a person with a gun walking around the store and outside the store. Witnesses also said the person said he was going to shoot, according to his arrest affidavit. They gave officers a description, and officers said they obtained video footage showing Turner holding a gun in his right hand. Officers reported that video footage showed Turner waving the gun in the air as he walked around the store and the premises.

Turner denied waving the gun in the air and said he only pointed it at the ground.

Turner is charged with possession of a firearm and smuggling contraband while in custody.

Officers said in a separate arrest report that ammunition was found on Turner's person by Davidson County Sheriff's Office personnel after his arrest.

Turner remains in jail on $50,000 bail.
