Teacher sentenced after having sex with two students and becoming pregnant

MANCHESTER, England (WKRC) – A female teacher has been sentenced after having sex with two male students.

According to The New York PostRebecca Joynes, 30, a former gymnast and maths teacher, has been convicted of sexually abusing two students. The post office, Joynes, who taught maths at a high school in Manchester, England, said she felt lonely after a long-term relationship ended during the COVID-19 lockdown, and felt “flattered” by the attention from teenagers.

The Independent reported that Joynes was convicted in April of six counts of sexual activity with children after having sex with a student before becoming pregnant with another student's child while she was out on bail.

“Your conduct is breathtakingly arrogant. You were the adult,” Judge Kate Cornell told Joynes. “You were the person in control, the person who should have known better and who should have been entrusted by the school, the boys and their parents with the responsibility of caring for their sons. Instead, you abused that position of trust and exploited that privileged role for your own sexual gratification.”

Joynes was sentenced Thursday after a two-week trial, the publication said. The post officeJoynes' victims were referred to as “Boy A” and “Boy B” and were aged 15 and 16 respectively at the time of the sexual abuse.

The child's father, Boy B, told the court he was “coerced, controlled, manipulated and sexually abused” by Joynes, adding that the abuse “tore my family apart”, according to The post office.

“I questioned whether I was right to make statements about the woman who was carrying my child. I have since reflected on a lot of things and spoken to a lot of people. It has made me realise the extent of the abuse I suffered and the tactics used to achieve it,” Boy B told the court, according to Sky News. “I now find it very difficult to accept the idea of ​​entering into another relationship, because of the negative experience I had with Rebecca.”

Joynes allegedly told the teenager that “no one has any interest in knowing.”

According to The IndependentBoy A's mother noticed a hickey on her son's neck and called police. Joynes was suspended while authorities investigated, according to the publication, which reported that while she was out on bail, she began a relationship with Boy B.

“Every inch of your body is perfect. You are everything I have ever dreamed of,” the former teacher wrote in a letter to the minor, according to the publication.

How can that be a crime?” Judge Cornell told the defendant, according to the publication. “Well, Ms. Joynes, there’s no doubt that this is a crime. Both boys were real victims, clearly unsociable and vulnerable to the advances of an older, attractive woman.”

“You felt encouraged and invigorated by their attention. You were the one with the car, the apartment, the money, the life experience,” the judge continued, according to the publication. “You didn't really get it, you continue to deny the crimes and you have remained silent about the disturbing impact on these boys.”

Joynes was convicted of six counts of sexual activity with a child and sentenced to six and a half years in prison, according to The post office.

“Ultimately, I will forever be Rebecca’s victim and forever linked to her through our child,” Boy B told the court.
