Taylor Casey's mother heads to the Bahamas to help find her missing daughter

The mother of a Chicago woman who disappeared while attending a yoga retreat in the Bahamas traveled to the Caribbean country Wednesday to get answers by revealing a puzzling new detail about her daughter's disappearance.

Taylor Casey's worried mother, Colette Seymore, revealed the same day that her daughter's phone had been found at the bottom of the ocean in an interview with CBS News.

Seymore said the reports about her daughter's disappearance made no sense and she needed to be there in person to get answers and help in the search for her.

“You know, a mother's intuition and the answers that I was getting just didn't add up, it just wasn't what I wanted to hear,” Seymore told ABC News.

“A young lady called me and said, 'Have you heard from Taylor?' And I'm like, I'm looking at the phone because I know she was coming from the yoga retreat…and then she said 'Taylor didn't show up for yoga class.'

Casey, 41, was last seen Wednesday, June 19, at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Paradise Island area, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The yoga retreat center said Casey never showed up for Thursday morning classes and alerted her family, local authorities and the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas.

Seymore said she last heard from her daughter on Tuesday when she shared photos of her swimming at the beach and the retreat center said she attended classes Wednesday evening , according to news channels.

Emily Williams, a close friend of Casey's, is also traveling to the island nation to get clarity on the current status of the case, telling ABC they have received “rare” updates.

“We want to make sure they take this case as seriously as we take it,” Williams said of local investigators. “And we know we need to be there face to face to be able to get all the information we need.” And so we can fully defend Taylor.

Casey has been practicing yoga for 15 years and was attending the retreat to continue her studies in the discipline. Her family said she was excited to return home to share what she learned with her Chicago community.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force told ABC they met with the family on Wednesday.

“We need to know where Taylor is,” Williams told CBS. “We need to know what happened and we need the whole story. »

The tourist disappeared while a U.S. State Department travel advisory for the Bahamas was in effect since the start of the year. The department warned Americans to be careful when visiting the tropical paradise due to the increase in violent crime.

“Violent crimes, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas,” the State Department says on its website.

Neither a representative for Casey's family nor the Royal Bahamas Police Force immediately responded to a request for more information about the discovery of his phone.
