Tallahassee prosecutors say father shot son in Ox Bow Road shooting

Details of the fatal shooting on Ox Bow Road have been released and prosecutors say a father shot his son in self-defense.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7000 block of Ox Bow Road on April 26 to conduct a “death investigation” after a man was found dead, but many details about the incident have not been released.

On Tuesday night, Assistant District Attorney Sarah Dugan told the Tallahassee Democrat that a father shot his son after the son threatened his mother and attacked his father with a knife. Because the shooting was an act of self-defense, Dugan said no charges were filed against him and the case is closed.

Shortly after the shooting, LCSO spokeswoman Shonda Knight said the incident involved two men and was “domestic” in nature. No further details about the circumstances of the shooting were released until Tuesday.

The incident is part of a string of shootings throughout the year. So far in 2024, 15 people have died and 30 people have been injured in 38 serious shootings in the capital and county, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.
