Takeout shooting in South Philadelphia leaves 5 injured – NBC10 Philadelphia

Surveillance video shows multiple stun grenades as two gunmen exit an SUV and open fire at a South Philadelphia Chinese takeout restaurant, and more gunfire appears to come from someone inside the vehicle.

A total of five men were injured in the shooting at the Twin Dragon takeout restaurant on the corner of South 27th and Dickinson streets in the Grays Ferry neighborhood shortly before 10:25 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024, Philadelphia police said.

A slow-motion section of the video shows the driver of the black Jeep Grand Cherokee also appearing to fire a gun multiple times as the two other gunmen attempt to get into the SUV to escape.

One of the masked gunmen – both with balaclavas over their heads – appears to limp towards the getaway vehicle.

At least one person inside the store began returning fire, Detective Chief Inspector Scott Small said Tuesday morning. Another angle of the video shows people inside the store running for cover

Five men, aged 21 to 45, were injured, four were shot in the legs and one was hit in the arm, police said.

Police took one man to hospital, while the other four arrived in private cars, investigators said. They were all in stable condition at area hospitals Tuesday morning.

Five customers inside the takeout restaurant, including a child under 10, were not hit by gunfire, Small said.

Investigators found evidence that at least 40 shots were fired outside the restaurant and 12 more from inside, Small said. Police found at least one firearm at the scene.

At least one victim in the incident has been arrested as a suspect, Small said Tuesday morning. Police did not provide further details Wednesday.

Police also seized a vehicle that had been used to take a gunshot victim to hospital for investigation into clues.

Police asked anyone who recognizes the shooters to immediately call 911. The police department's Shooting Investigations Unit asked anyone with information to call them at 215-686-8271 or submit a tip anonymously by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS (8477).

It was not the first time a shooting had occurred at the same Chinese takeout restaurant, as a teenager was shot dead there while begging for his life in 2017.
