Sydney University knife attack: Counter-terrorism police investigate teenager

A teenager wearing an Australian Defence Force uniform has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a man on the University of Sydney campus.
The New South Wales Joint Counter Terrorism Team is investigating the case, but police say no motive has been established.
The background: Ambulances were called to the scene in Camperdown town centre at around 8.30am on Tuesday and found a 22-year-old man with stab wounds to his neck.

Police were told the alleged attacker had boarded a bus and shortly afterwards a 14-year-old boy was arrested near the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which is next to the university.

What else to know: The boy was known to the police.
“The activity of this young person is unknown, but I would say it is likely to be classified as mixed and unclear ideology,” said Assistant Commissioner Mark Walton.
“It is certainly not an ideology linked to religion.”
The injured man was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Police said the teenager did not know the man before the alleged attack and had no connection to the defence force or cadets.
What happens next: A crime scene has been established on the university campus and the alleged attacker is undergoing a mental health evaluation.
