Swiss mummy identified as Boris Johnson's ancestor

LONDON (AP) — Researchers have identified a mummified body found in a Basel cemetery as that of a wealthy 18th-century Swiss woman who is an ancestor of British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson.

The body of an apparently wealthy woman was found decades ago during renovations of the Swiss town's Barfuesser Church. There was no tombstone and his identity remained a mystery.

The Basel Natural History Museum says its experts led an international team that identified it. The results will be broadcast on Swiss television on Thursday.

The BBC claims that DNA extracted from the mummy's toe revealed that it was Anna Catharina Bischoff, a member of a prominent Basel family who died in 1787.

His daughter married Christian Hubert, Baron Pfeffel von Kriegelstein, ancestor of the British Foreign Secretary, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson.
