Suspects involved in hours-long Chinese Spring standoff identified by authorities

CHINA SPRING, Texas (KWTX) – Authorities have identified the two suspects arrested Friday during a standoff in the Highland Park area of China Spring.

McLennan County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Cody Blossman identified the suspects as Cameron Rice, 37, and Shayne Miller, 27, both of Waco.

Rice was wanted on an aggravated assault warrant while Miller was being prosecuted for an alleged parole violation.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara told KWTX the confrontation began around 9 a.m. Friday morning after the suspects barricaded themselves in a home.

McNamara said officers attempted to communicate with Rice and Miller during the nine-hour standoff, but were unresponsive to their efforts.

Two armored vehicles from the Sheriff's Office and the Waco Police Department entered the residence to gain entry.

“The house was basically dismantled,” McNamara said.

Authorities had to search the house for Rice and Miller, who officers found crouching in a small cubicle hidden behind speakers, McNamara said.

“They were hard to find because they were hiding in a rat hole,” McNamara said.

Blossman said McLennan County officials have not filed any additional charges at this time, given Friday's standoff.

McNamara said he wanted to thank the agencies who responded to the scene and spent the entire day in the hot sun.

These agencies included the U.S. Marshals Service, McLennan County Sheriff's Office, Bosque County Sheriff's Office, Waco Police Department and Homeland Security.

“Everyone did a phenomenal job,” McNamara said. “This is a tremendous combined effort by all of these law enforcement agencies. »
