The chase took place Wednesday afternoon on a busy highway. Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed several officers in unmarked cars, along with Miami-Dade police, chasing a silver SUV at high speed that weaved through traffic on the Palmetto.

At one point, the SUV struck a vehicle stopped on the shoulder, narrowly missing a person standing behind it.

The SUV was eventually surrounded by police vehicles and stopped near the northwest exit of eastbound 47th Avenue, where officers surrounded it with weapons drawn and arrested both men.

Multiple suspects were arrested after a high-speed police chase ended on the Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade Wednesday afternoon.

Miami-Dade police officials said the incident began when officers from the Robbery Intervention Detail, conducting an operation in Florida City, spotted the SUV, which appeared to be surrounding a warehouse area.

Officers checked records and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. When they tried to stop it, the vehicle fled the scene.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle the suspects were driving had been stolen earlier this month, according to the arrest report.

NBC6 found documents showing Payne was charged with attempted second-degree murder in 2021 and was also previously arrested.

Payne also faces two arrest warrants, one for leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage and the other for knowingly driving with a suspended license.

Both suspects remained in custody at a Miami-Dade jail and are expected to appear before a judge on Thursday.
