Suspects found in deadly shooting at Columbus Park vigil

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus police have arrested two people accused in a shooting at a vigil for a homicide victim that left two other people dead.

Ladavia Fortner, 31, and Tyrez Turner, 18, were both taken into custody in connection with the June 3 shooting at Krumm Park on Alton Avenue, according to Franklin County Municipal Court documents. Fortner faces two murder charges, while Turner faces counts of possessing a weapon while under disability and unlawful possession of dangerous prescriptions.

The shooting victims, Jakwaun Kimbro and Lonnie Johnston, were pronounced dead minutes after the incident at 9:54 p.m. They were attending a candlelight vigil for Da'Mya Cummerlander, who was shot and killed June 2 in the 2600 block of Woodsedge Road.

Columbus police previously released surveillance images of two people of interest in the shooting, who may have fought back. They did not say the people in the photos were Turner and Fortner Thursday.
