Suspected Garland District shooter administered CPR to victim, court documents reveal | Spokane News

SPOKANE, Wash. – Court documents have revealed more details and information about the deadly shooting that occurred Thursday morning in the Garland District.

According to court documents, on May 23, around 5:30 a.m., 911 dispatchers received calls about a shooting with a victim in the area of ​​Garland and Wall.

Multiple Spokane Police Department patrol cars arrived on scene and encountered two men, one suffering from a gunshot wound and another attempting to administer medical aid to the victim.

The man administering the medical aid was later identified by police as Caleb N. Carder, 28; Police then asked Carder where the shooter had gone and Carder responded that he was the shooter.

Police said Carder told them he placed a gun in the seat of his car. The police then attempted to save the victim's life, but were unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced dead. Police then arrested Carder.

Police later interviewed witnesses near the scene, who said the shooter's car had passed the victim's car, cut into his path and stopped in the middle of the lane. According to witnesses, the two men got out of their car and looked like they were about to fight. The victim then began running away with Carder's shot and, according to a business owner, “emptied a whole magazine” and saw the victim fall to the ground. ground.

Carder was later charged with first-degree murder and was later booked into the Spokane County Jail.

Carder's bail is set at $5 million.
