Suspected drug trafficker arrested with help from the FBI in Vértesszőlős

A man from Nagytarcsa, near Budapest, was apprehended by Hungarian police with the help of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation for allegedly selling drugs internationally on the dark web.

The National Bureau of Investigation Hungarian rapid response police (KR NNI) said Thursday that the investigation was initiated several years ago after the FBI contacted Hungarian authorities with information about a Hungarian citizen selling significant quantities of drugs in various markets with the help of the dark web.

In cooperation with FBIThe KR NNI used cutting-edge cyber forensic technologies to monitor dark web markets to identify and track criminals.

The man allegedly sold synthetic drugs, cocaine and heroin to 16 countries, including the United States, Canada, Serbia, Australia, Belgium, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Estonia and Spain. between 2021 and 2023. The 35-year-old never physically handled the drug, he only acted as an intermediary on the dark web, making a profit with a turnover of around 100 million forints (250,000 euros) which he used to buy real estate.

He was arrested in Vértesszőlős, northern Hungary, on June 11.
