Suspected ATM vandal surrenders in Cambria County court, police say | Local News

A Johnstown man will face a Cambria County judge accused of trying to break into a credit union ATM on Vine Street downtown, causing $50,000 in damage, according to the municipal police.

Trace Thomas Sandoval, 28, of the 300 block of Strauss Avenue, waived his right to a preliminary hearing June 6 before District Judge Brian Subich, Johnstown.

The case will be heard in Cambria County Court in Ebensburg. Police charged Sandoval with one count of criminal mischief.

Police were called May 13 to Franklin Johnstown Federal Credit Union, 544 Vine St., according to a complaint affidavit.

The credit union manager reported that Sandoval was observed on the credit union's exterior ATM video camera kicking the machine repeatedly.

Damage to the ATM was estimated at $50,000, rendering the machine inoperable, the affidavit states.

The manager could have recognized Sandoval as a member of the credit union.

Sandoval is currently free on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
