Suspect wanted for deadly Independence Day shooting

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A 54-year-old man is wanted in connection with a shooting that left one person dead in the early hours of July 4, 2024.

Kevin Holloway(Sarasota Police Department)

The Sarasota Police Department said they believe Kevin Holloway is responsible for the overnight homicide. Holloway was last seen driving a 2011 Nissan Altima with Florida license plate #CC1601. He is considered armed and dangerous, so police say if you see him, DO NOT APPROACH and call 911 immediately. Since this is an ongoing investigation, the information the Sarasota Police Department can release is limited. They were able to confirm that the shots rang out around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Dixie Ave and 24th Street, just minutes from Booker High School.

Neighbors said this phenomenon is far from uncommon in the neighborhood. In fact, there was another shooting on the street a few days ago.

“Everybody carries guns. A 13-year-old was shot down the street next door, he had a gun, what are these people doing,” said a man named Roy, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years.

“I don't hang around at night because you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and you get shot, and the bullet's not even meant for you, and you're dead,” Roy said.

Residents said they wanted to see less gun violence in their neighborhood.
