Suspect wanted for alleged hit-and-run of police vehicle | Crime and justice

An individual is wanted for allegedly ramming their vehicle into a police car during a hit-and-run in northeast Colorado Springs this morning.

The Colorado Springs Police Department's Falcon Division responded to a welfare check regarding two people who were unresponsive in a vehicle in the 5300 block of North Academy Boulevard at 9:47 a.m. Drugs were seen in plain view inside the vehicle.

The occupants of the vehicle woke up while the police to attempt to establish a “no-contact block” that would prevent the impaired driver from exiting. They do not have abide by commands, and the driver took off, ramming his vehicle into a police car, police reported.

Before the vehicle fled, the officers had deployed a ““Piranhas” tire deflation device, which deflated one of the vehicle's tires while both started.

The suspect drives recklessly in a residential neighborhood west of Montebello Drive and Academy Boulevard and managed to escape the officers.

The driver has been identified and will be arrested once the arrest warrant is completed, police said. No one was injured during the chase.

Only the driver is charged at this time.
