Suspect shot and killed in Phoenix officer-involved shooting

PHOENIX — Detectives are investigating a police-involved shooting that left a suspect dead Sunday afternoon in Phoenix, the Phoenix Police Department said.

The incident occurred near Coronado Park at the intersection of 13th Street and Palm Lane.

Around 1:53 p.m., a two-man patrol unit was called to a subject armed with a gun, according to police. While en route, officers received additional information that the subject was attempting to steal a motorcycle.

When police arrived, they found a man on a motorcycle in an alley, authorities said. When the officers got out of their vehicle, police said the man brandished a handgun at them, leading to the officer-involved shooting.

After the shooting, police provided medical treatment to the injured suspect, police said. Firefighters responded and took the man to hospital where he died from his injuries.

The first victims of the alleged motorcycle theft remained on scene and were unharmed, according to authorities. No officers or anyone else was injured.

Detectives will continue to investigate the shooting, police said. No additional information was available.
