Suspect, injured officer identified after hours-long standoff in northwest OKC

Oklahoma City police have identified the suspect killed in Tuesday's shooting in northwest Oklahoma City. Police have also identified the injured officer.

According to a statement from Oklahoma City police, officers were called to the scene of a man pointing a gun at another person at a home near Northwest 36th Street and North Pennsylvania Avenue around 9 a.m.

Police confirmed that officers encountered the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Kavon Ragan, on his porch.

The statement said officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but Ragan refused to comply with commands and continued to enter and exit the home.

Police say a short time later, Ragan began shooting at officers, wounding Sergeant Joshua Scott. Scott was taken to a local hospital by another officer at the scene, police said.

Police discovered that Ragan had five other people in the home with him, three of whom were children.

Ragan continued to fire at officers and refused any opportunity to surrender peacefully, police confirmed.

At 11:47 a.m., police said Ragan was shot by an Oxford police officer. Other occupants of the home were unharmed, police said.

The officer who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital and is doing well after undergoing surgery, according to OCPD Capt. Valerie Littlejohn.

Littlejohn said the officers involved in the shooting of the suspect have been placed on paid administrative leave. “It's tough on everybody,” Littlejohn said. “The whole situation … the incident itself is very difficult for everybody involved.”

Neighboring homes have been evacuated, police said.

Lamont Overstreet, a resident of the neighborhood, said the violence in the neighborhood is no surprise: “It's a really tough neighborhood to live in… I'm moving out of this neighborhood.”
