Suspect in stabbing of child in N. Olmsted grocery store parking lot charged

Bionca Ellis, the 32-year-old woman accused of fatally stabbing a 3-year-old and injuring her mother Monday in the parking lot of Giant Eagle in North Olmsted, has been charged with murder.

According to the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's Office, a grand jury indicted Ellis on the following charges:

  • One count of aggravated murder
  • Two counts of murder
  • Two counts of attempted murder
  • Two counts of felonious assault
  • One count of child endangerment
  • One count of tampering with evidence
  • One count of misdemeanor theft

Authorities say Ellis stole two knives from the Volunteers of America store, then headed to Giant Eagle in the 27000 block of Lorain Road, where she spotted a 38-year-old woman pushing a child in a shopping cart.
Authorities say Ellis followed the mother and her son, Julian Wood, into the parking lot and then stabbed the child while he was in a grocery cart. When the mother tried to remove the boy from the cart during the attack, Ellis stabbed her as well.

The mother and son were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but unfortunately the boy succumbed to his injuries; the mother should get over hers.

Officers found Ellis nearby and arrested her without resistance. The suspect weapon was found next to Ellis during his arrest.

According to authorities, it was a random attack.

“This case is truly devastating. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Wood family during this difficult time,” said Prosecutor Michael O’Malley. “As a father, I could not imagine this heartbreak, but I can promise that we will do everything in our power to bring justice to Julian Wood and the Wood family.”

Ellis is due to be arraigned in County Court on June 10. She is currently behind bars on $1 million bail.
