Suspect in Massachusetts stabbing rampage appears in court without shoes

A man suspected of stabbing six people in Massachusetts and killing a man in Connecticut was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation after his first court appearance Tuesday.

Jared Ravizza, 26, was not wearing shoes during his arraignment in Plymouth District Court, according to Boston ABC affiliate WCVB. He will be held without bail pending evaluation.

Ravizza is suspected of killing an elderly man Saturday in Deep River, Conn., then stabbing four girls at a movie theater in Braintree, Mass., and later stabbing two McDonald's employees at a rest stop in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

All six victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

Tuesday's court appearance related to the McDonald's stabbings, in which Ravizza is charged with one count of assault to murder and two counts of assault and battery injuries, the Boston Globe reported. He is also charged with one count of indecent assault for allegedly urinating in the restaurant's drive-thru.

Ravizza stabbed a 28-year-old man through the drive-thru window while he argued over his order, police said. He then parked his car, entered the restaurant and stabbed a 21-year-old woman, police said.

Ravizza subsequently fled the scene and headed south. Police eventually located Ravizza's vehicle and attempted to stop him, but he sped away. Cops chased him until Ravizza crashed in the Cape Cod town of Sandwich.

Ravizza's violence began around 3:30 p.m. in Deep River, where he killed the elderly man, later identified as Bruce Feldman, 70, according to police.

Connecticut State Police said they responded to a disturbance call after a person, later identified as Ravizza, threw a shovel through a front door window. Arriving officers found Feldman dead inside the residence.

Around 6 p.m. in Braintree, just 10 miles south of Boston, Ravizza entered a movie theater without paying and stabbed four girls who were settling in for a showing of “IF,” police said.

“This crime appears to be completely senseless and random, perpetrated against innocent and completely defenseless children,” Braintree police said.

Ravizza is charged with eight counts of assault for the Braintree attack. Charges are pending in the Connecticut incident.
