Suspect in 100 mph pursuit in stolen SUV identified, jailed

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A man who police say fled in a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon, then ran on foot when he lost control under an overpass, has been jailed with a total bond of $35,000.

Walter Jacob Wisdom was charged with escape and auto theft.

A reporting officer spotted the Hyundai SUV stolen from the Quick Trip gas pumps on Old Iowa Park Road on Monday, June 3, 2024. Hours earlier, it had been reported stolen from TNT Auto Repair on Seymour Highway.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot, he said the driver fled at high speed, heading east on Old Iowa Park Road and then onto Sheppard Access Road, reaching approximately 100 miles per hour in the wrong lane and going through a red light.

Under the Spur 325 viaduct, the driver was unable to make the turn and hit the curb, breaking the right front wheel.

He said Wisdom got out and ran towards the train tracks. The police officer caught up with him just after the railway tracks and took him into custody.

Court records show Wisdom has six convictions, including one for evading arrest.
