Suspect Identified, Charged in Fatal I-5 Stabbing

KING COUNTY—At approximately 2:40 p.m. on June 26, 2024, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received 9-1-1 calls reporting a domestic violence incident on NB I-5 around S 375th in Federal Way.

Other people who called 9-1-1 reported that there appeared to be several injured people in and around a black BMW that had partially fallen into the right ditch. There have also been reports of a shooting linked to this vehicle.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted a man and a woman who had walked away from the vehicle and had both been stabbed. Another man was found on the ground next to the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. The driver was still in the vehicle and had a serious stab wound to the neck. The driver was sadly deceased.

Police were quickly able to confirm that all four people involved were in the BMW, that no other vehicles were involved and that no one was of note.

The two men and a woman were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

At this point, it was unclear exactly what had happened. It was unclear who the suspect was and who the victim was. The scene was processed by WSP detectives and the Crime Scene Response Team, who cleared the scene after 11 p.m.

Through further investigation including interviews, WSP detectives were able to determine that one of the adults sitting in the back of the vehicle was the suspect who stabbed the driver and two other passengers. The suspect is the one who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation is still ongoing and detectives are in the process of determining who fired the handgun.

The suspect remains in the hospital and as soon as he is medically cleared, he will be booked into the King County Jail for investigation into a murder committed in Case 2.n/a degree and two counts of assault 1st.

The names of those involved will not be released until charges are booked or filed by the King County Prosecutor's Office.

WSP detectives are looking for anyone with information about this incident to include dash cam video. Please contact Detective Ford at [email protected].
