Suspect faces attempted murder charges after shooting, stabbing (Photo)

A man faces attempted murder and other serious charges after shooting one person and stabbing/slashing two others.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 8:42 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to the East Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the 10400 block of Southeast Clinton Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that an adult male had been shot by a known suspect. The suspect then hit an adult neighbor in the hand and threatened another neighbor with the knife. They also learned the suspect was still in the area. Officers quickly located the suspect, who was attempting to flee police on foot. As he fled, he used a knife to stab another neighbor in the neck. Officers deployed a conducted electric weapon (CEW or Taser), which was effective, and arrested the suspect.

The shooting victim was struck in the shoulder and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was released after treatment. The first neighbor who was struck with a knife, an adult woman, refused medical transport and treated her wound herself. The second neighbor who was cut, an adult male, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, treated and released.

During the event, the suspect also suffered what appears to be a gunshot wound to the hand. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit attended the scene to investigate. The suspect remained in hospital under police custody until Saturday, May 25, 2024, when he was released. Tyler Valenzuela Price, 29, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder (4 counts), Second Degree Assault (3 counts), Unlawful Use of a weapon (4 counts) and threats.
