A car-to-car shooting in downtown Los Angeles left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to Los Angeles police, the shooting happened at the intersection of East 12th Street and Maple Avenue around 12:15 a.m., near The Santee Alley, a collection of outdoor shops in Los Angeles' Fashion District.

“It appears the victims stopped while in their vehicle when the suspect vehicle pulled up alongside them,” an LAPD spokesperson confirmed to KTLA. “A suspect then exited the sunroof and shot the victims several times before fleeing.”

Three people were in the car where the bullet was fired, police said. They were only identified as two men – one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene – and a woman.

The other two victims were transported to a local hospital in critical and stable condition, the LAPD said, but they did not confirm who was in critical condition.

Video from the scene shows detectives placing dozens of evidence markers in the area. Several shell casings were recovered, authorities confirmed.

No suspect or vehicle description was immediately available.
