Suspect dead after Las Vegas shooting kills 5, seriously injures 13-year-old

A man who fatally shot five people in North Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday, June 24, committed suicide on Tuesday, June 25, the Associated Press, ABC KTNV 13 and Fox 5 report.

Eric Adams, 47, was the suspected shooter in a mass shooting Monday night, and the North Las Vegas Police Department said he took his own life Tuesday morning.

Authorities were searching for Adams after he shot five people and seriously injured a 13-year-old girl at an apartment complex near Commerce Street and Lone Mountain Road.

Law enforcement discovered the five victims, including four women – one in her early 40s, one in her late 50s and two in their mid-20s – as well as a man in his 20s. . The 13-year-old girl was transported to University Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

The two women, aged between 40 and 50, were discovered first. During the investigation, officers were informed by the department that a juvenile had been transported to the hospital and that there may be additional victims. The police then found the bodies of the young women and the young man.

After the shooting, Adams fled the scene. Authorities conducted an overnight manhunt for Adams, who authorities had described as “armed and dangerous,” according to the Associated Press.

He wasn't discovered until around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, when police found him at a business in the 1500 block of Lake Mead Boulevard, near MLK Boulevard, according to ABC 13. then fled into the courtyard of a neighboring residence.

Authorities then ordered him to drop the gun, but he refused, turned the gun on himself and killed himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Adams' shooting was described by authorities as an “isolated incident,” according to the Associated Press.

A representative for the North Las Vegas Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for more information Tuesday.
