SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – There is an update on the case of a fatal assault that occurred in Springfield in January 2023.

Leshmarie Marin-Viera was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Hampden Superior Court. The incident occurred on Chestnut Street early in the morning of January 29, 2023.

Police found a woman with a stab wound shortly before 2 a.m. and took her to hospital, where she later died. Marin-Viera went to Springfield Police Headquarters around 5:30 p.m. on January 30.

She is scheduled to be sentenced July 2.
