Suspect chased victims before fatal Oak Cliff shooting, Dallas police say in affidavit

A 20-year-old man chased two people in his car before opening fire, killing one person and injuring another Tuesday evening, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Salvador Martinez Jr. was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with murder in the Oak Cliff shooting that left 23-year-old Stephano Osorio dead. According to the affidavit, Osorio and several others were at Kidd Springs Park, north of Oak Cliff, when Martinez, driving a Mustang, pulled into a nearby parking lot. The affidavit states that Martinez and the people at the park had a “violent conflict going on” and that the group left the park in two cars after seeing Martinez arrive.

The affidavit says Osorio and a person, identified by police as a 16-year-old man, left in Osorio's car and were followed by Martinez. Osorio turned onto South Winnetka Avenue and drove south until he was forced to stop in the 400 block of South Winnetka Avenue due to construction barriers, the affidavit states.

Osorio drove his car onto the sidewalks and yards of the residential street in an attempt to escape Martinez, but he crashed his car and was forced to stop, the affidavit states. Osorio and his passenger then got out of the vehicle and were shot by Martinez, according to the affidavit.

Police said the teen was taken to the hospital in stable condition, but the affidavit said Osorio was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

Detectives interviewed the witnesses, who identified Martinez and showed police photos of him, the affidavit states. The witnesses also told police that they had known Martinez for a long time, but that in recent months a conflict had broken out in which Martinez fired shots at several residences and vehicles, according to the affidavit.

Martinez was then arrested at his residence in the Elmwood neighborhood of Dallas, according to the affidavit. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Wednesday on $1 million bail.
