Suspect charged with fatal shooting of man in chest in Lumberton; victim identified

LUMBERTON, Miss. (WDAM) – A suspect has been charged with murder after fatally shooting another man in the chest Monday.

David Morrison, 39, was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Cody Watkins, according to Lumberton Police Department Criminal Investigator Glenn Lowery.

Lowery said officers received a call around 11:47 a.m. about the shooting at a home along Camp Avenue. When police and medical responders arrived at 11:51 a.m., they found Watkins dead at the scene.

The police department said the shooting is believed to be domestic in nature and poses no imminent threat to the community.

Morrison is also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon in connection with the shooting, according to online jail records.
