Suspect charged after shooting in Monroe County, Tennessee

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A suspect has been identified and charged after a shooting that left a woman injured in Philadelphia, Tenn., over the weekend, according to Monroe County court documents.

On Sunday, Sheriff Tommy Jones said deputies found a woman with a gunshot wound in the area of ​​the 700 block of Seedtick Road in Philadelphia. She was taken to hospital with “serious injuries.” Jones also said a “male subject” was found nearby and “taken into custody after officers entered the residence.”

This suspect, identified as Michael Earl Dowlingwas charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault of a family member and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous crime.

The affidavit states that on Saturday, June 15, MCSO deputies responded to a residence located in the 700 block of Reed Springs Road in response to a report that a person had been shot. Arriving officers found a woman inside a residence, believed to have been shot by her boyfriend, Dowling. She had a “large wound to her left chest consistent with a gunshot wound,” the affidavit states, and during the investigation, officers learned that Dowling may have been at another residence along Seed Tick ​​Road.

“Deputies made several announcements for Mr. Dowling’s departure,” the affidavit states. “After a short time of no response, deputies made a forced entry into the residence… Once inside the residence, deputies located Mr. Dowling on a bed in a bedroom. Near Mr Dowling was a handgun. Also located inside the residence were several shotgun shells. We located a shotgun that had been cut off inside the residence.

Dowling was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that the shooting occurred at the Seed Tick Road residence. Dowling is being held without bail and his next court appearance is scheduled for July 1.

As of Tuesday morning, MCSO said the woman was still alive.
