Suspect arrested on warrant after 2023 high-speed crash that killed 2 sisters in Surprise

SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamille) — A suspect has been arrested months after his involvement in a crash that left two people dead in Surprise.

Newly obtained court documents indicate Shawn David Bundy, 23, was arrested after a grand jury issued an arrest warrant for involuntary manslaughter and endangerment last week.

According to Surprise Police, the accident happened on October 14, 2023, just after 2 a.m. near Deer Valley and Williams roads.

Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles: a Dodge RAM truck and a Honda Civic that were severely damaged. Inside the Civic, two sisters, later identified as Bea Cueto, 19, and Althea Cueto, 20, both of Surprise, died from their injuries.

Bundy, the driver of the truck, was evaluated for impairment and faced several possible criminal charges. Two months later, in December 2023, charges were formally submitted to the Maricopa County Prosecutor's Office on the following grounds:

  • 2 counts of second degree murder
  • 2 counts of manslaughter
  • 4 counts of endangerment
  • 1 count of excessive speed
  • 1 count of aggressive driving
  • 1 count of DUI in the least degree
  • 1 count of DUI with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or more

Bundy's bail was set at $200,000, according to a Surprise police spokesperson.
