Suspect arrested moments after latest burglary

McLean Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau, with the assistance of patrol officers, arrested a man in connection with four separate burglaries in the Dunn Loring neighborhood.

On May 24, around 10:25 a.m., officers responded to the 7900 block of Tire Swing Road in Dunn Loring for a burglary of an occupied dwelling. While the victims were inside, they heard and saw the suspect break in through the basement window. The victim stopped the suspect, who fled before the police arrived.

Officers located and arrested William Westray, 58, of Maryland, a short distance away as he attempted to ride the subway. Westray was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with burglary, two counts of burglary with intent to commit a misdemeanor, three counts of destruction of property and two additional warrants from another jurisdiction were served. He was held without bail, but has since been released on secured bail.

Beforehand, detectives linked Westray to three additional burglaries in the Dunn Loring area.
