Suspect arrested in random stabbing at Ohio grocery store | News

North Olmsted, Ohio — Authorities have apprehended a woman accused of fatally stabbing a 3-year-old boy and injuring the child's mother in an apparently random attack outside an Ohio supermarket.

The incident happened Monday in the parking lot of a Giant Eagle grocery store in the Cleveland suburb of North Olmsted.

Police said the suspect, Bionca Ellis, 32, of Cleveland, followed the mother and child from inside the store before launching the sudden assault, the AP reported.

Witnesses reported that Ellis attacked the two men in less than five seconds, leaving bystanders little time to intervene. The young victim, identified as Julian Wood, died of his injuries at a nearby hospital. The mother, Margot Wood, was treated for a stab wound to the shoulder, according to the AP.

Ellis was arrested at the scene as he walked away with a kitchen knife in his hand, authorities said. She was charged with aggravated murder and attempted murder.

Investigators believe the attack was random, with no prior interaction between Ellis and the victims. Ellis allegedly stole the knife from a thrift store next to the grocery store before committing the assault, the AP reported.

Police dashcam and body camera footage captured the aftermath, showing a bystander directing officers toward the fleeing suspect. Ellis was apprehended without incident and is currently being held on $1 million bail.
