Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a food delivery driver in Opa-locka earlier this month.

Dawayen Anton Bendross, 22, was arrested Tuesday on second-degree murder charges in the killing of Alejandro Linares, 40, according to an arrest report.

Linares had gotten out of his car when someone confronted him and shot him, police said.

According to the arrest report, the shooting was caught on surveillance video and a .45 caliber shell casing was found at the scene.

On Monday, police received a report of a person matching the description of the murder and arrested Bendross.

Bendross was in possession of a .45-caliber Glock handgun, according to the report.

Forensic tests performed on the weapon determined it matched the casing found at the scene, according to the report.

A witness also identified Bendross based on a “need to identify” a flyer from the crime, according to the report.

Benross was arrested and incarcerated.

In court Tuesday, Bendross was appointed a public defender and was ordered held without bail. His mother told the judge that Bendross had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, was bipolar and had been Baker Act seven or eight times.
