Suspect arrested in Birmingham domestic violence shooting Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police were called to the scene of a person shot in the 3500 block of RAJ Boulevard. North around 7:25 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, BPD officers observed a male victim lying unconscious in a grassy field, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced the victim dead.

According to BPD, preliminary investigations have led them to believe that a woman, believed to be the victim's girlfriend, shot the victim and may even have been the one who called 911. Authorities say she remained there, was arrested and transported to BPD headquarters where she will be questioned.

Right now, authorities say they are working to learn what happened before the shooting and whether the disturbance occurred in or near a vehicle that was also at the scene. Police do not believe the victim was in the car when he was shot, but they are trying to determine whether or not the suspect was in the car when the shots were fired.
