Suspect arrested in 2023 stabbing death of New Haven man

PUTNAM, Conn. (WTNH) — A Putnam man was recently charged with multiple warrants, including involuntary manslaughter, in connection with a fatal stabbing in Putnam last year.

Walter Lawson, 41, was extradited from Main by Eastern District Major Crimes detectives after being arrested on three separate arrest warrants related to multiple incidents that occurred between September 2023 and May 2024.

Lawson was charged with first-degree manslaughter; possession of drugs with intent to sell, person under 18; and first-degree conspiracy to commit assault.

The manslaughter charges stem from a September 2023 incident in which Lawson is accused of stabbing a man during an altercation in Putnam.

That man was later identified as William Logan, 51, of New Haven.

At the time, police said he was dropped off by a vehicle at Day Kimball Hospital, where he entered the building to seek medical assistance. The hospital's medical team provided him with medical treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital, officials said.

Lawson was granted a total bail of $1,525,000. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Danielson Superior Court on June 28.
