Suspect arrested after numerous cars hit by ball bearings in Forest Grove

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was arrested after numerous people reported their cars were hit by ball bearings and other projectiles.

According to Forest Grove Police, an investigation began in October 2023 after they began receiving reports of vehicles being shot with BBs, ball bearings and other projectiles while traveling near E Street and Pacific Avenue.

In November, police said no suspects could be identified and reports had stopped coming in.

Then, this month, reports started coming in again about cars being hit by projectiles, still in the same area.

Authorities said they came up with a plan and on May 24, the suspect was found.

Around 10:30 p.m., police said they arrested Caleb Spurlock, 28, and at that time they found a slingshot and a container of ball bearings.

It was later learned that just minutes before his arrest, a passing vehicle reported being struck by a ball bearing.

Spurlock faces several charges, including first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.

In total, according to police, 12 vehicles were hit.
