Suspect accused of murder after shooting man 17 times outside gas station in Pinal County

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspect has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man more than a dozen times at a Pinal County gas station over the weekend.

Cary Davis now faces second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon, all felony charges.

Court papers say the shooting happened after 10 am on Saturday at the TA Travel Store just off Interstate 10 and Toltec Road, where police found the victim, later identified as Damarion Thorn, with 17 gunshot wounds to his body.

According to documents, a store employee told police that he saw Davis was pumping gas when someone walked over to his gas pump and started to punch him. At that point, the employees go into the store to alert them of the fight, but they hear several gunshots and call 911.

Security footage from the store confirmed that someone approached Davis and started punching him in the face, court documents said.

While the employee was on the phone with dispatchers, Davis allegedly walked over into the store with the gun tucked in his waistband and told the employee that he had called his family about what happened. The employee then told Davis that police were on the way and he should not have a gun on him.

Davis then left the store and returned to his car until police arrived and arrested him.

Investigators asked Davis if he felt in danger as the man who punched him was running away. He replied, “no,” and explained that he was scared because his father had been shot in the past in Casa Grande.

Davis has been booked into the Pinal County jail. He is being held on a $1 million secured bond.
