Surrey RCMP identify suspects in March jewelry store burglary

Surrey RCMP have identified two men allegedly involved in a break-in at a jewelry store a few months ago.

Officers say on March 31, they received a call at 8 a.m. about two suspicious men behind the store — Damas Jewelery on 108 Avenue near 146 Street — carrying a safe and loading it into a vehicle.

The suspects are two men, ages 51 and 27, who investigators say broke into the store through a business on the second floor.

Police also believe the break-in lasted several hours, with the suspects using entry tools and devices.

The 51-year-old man has since been deported from Canada for an unrelated matter, according to Surrey RCMP. The 27-year-old man does not reside in British Columbia and police are seeking a Canada-wide warrant to find him.

Store owner Tamim Al Zein told CityNews earlier this month that the crime cost him $300,000. He said he was between insurance companies because his insurance had just expired and he was unlucky enough that the incident happened while he was uninsured.
