Sunday's cooldown gives way to warm, sunny weather on Monday

It's warm and partly cloudy for metro OKC on Sunday, a much-needed cool-down from previous days.

Meteorologist Justin Rudicel says some showers and storms will drift south and disappear by sunset.

The forecast for the night looks clear, with temperatures falling into the 60s and a light northeast breeze.

Monday looks set to be sunny with a few clouds and a minimal chance of rain overnight Tuesday.

What will the weather be like on Sunday?

There is a slight chance of rain Sunday evening with the cold front moving through southern Oklahoma.

Sunday will be cooler, but as the cold front moves through the metro, storm chances will increase and temperatures will be cooler.

Next week we'll start with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

UPCOMING MODEL CHANGE:

As we typically see, the main jet stream lifts northward as June approaches. This is the primary storm track, so Oklahoma's organized storm season will end.

We can and will still experience severe storms, but the risk of tornadoes is decreasing significantly.

Next week, the large ridge of high pressure known as the “heat dome” will appear. This puts us in the northwest flow of the jet stream, which sometimes means complex storms arrive from the High Plains.

These storms could produce wind and hail. We will see. Eventually, the heat dome usually moves directly overhead, and we cut out the rain and see our temperature rise. This usually happens in July.
