Sunday stifling with Saharan dust

Forecast for Sunday:

Sunday will be hot and humid with highs approaching the upper 90s and a heat index ranging from 106° to 112°. Houston and most of Southeast Texas are under a heat advisory from noon to 7 p.m. Even though we are under a dome of high pressure, there is still a risk of isolated showers or thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening.

It looks like almost 110!
It feels like there are more than 105 in Houston.

From Sunday evening through the beginning of the week, a plume of Saharan dust arrives. The dust should not impact air quality but it will create beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

The dust has been gathering at the beginning of the week.

In the footsteps of the tropics:

Big update from Saturday evening: Beryl is now a Category 1 Hurricane. Which makes it the first hurricane of the 2024 season. Beryl is expected to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane, with winds of 185 km/h from here on Sunday as it passes through the Windward Islands. Beryl will continue to move westward across the Caribbean Sea and, by Thursday, will approach the Yucatan Peninsula as a weaker hurricane. We will continue to monitor how far Beryl travels north once it approaches the Gulf of Mexico, but impacts to Houston appear unlikely.

First hurricane of 2024, on track to become a major hurricane by the end of the weekend.

Another tropical wave behind Beryl has a 70% chance of developing over the next 7 days. If it grows, it will have enough warm water to help it grow stronger.

There is a high chance that a tropical wave will develop over the next 7 days.

A weaker area of storms in the Yucatan is expected to move into Mexico, but its chance of developing into a tropical storm or depression is 50% over the next 2-7 days. Its track will remain southward with no impact on southeast Texas, and the high pressure area over Texas prevents any impact on us.

An area of showers and thunderstorms will spread across the Bay of Campeche
10 day forecast:

Temperatures will rise further next week, with temperatures near 100° in Houston. On the 4th of July, it will be very hot!

Much heat !
