Sumter worker injured after truck pulling local food truck catches fire

SUMTER, SC (WIS) – A Midlands woman had a frightening experience while riding in a truck on Interstate 20 Saturday evening.

The truck she was in caught fire around 8 p.m. while towing a trailer from a Sumter food truck company.

Michelle Green, an employee of Baby Susie's Chicken Fries food truck, was injured in a car fire while driving with two other employees toward Sumter.

Today, she said she was grateful to be alive.

“I feel blessed, blessed and highly favored,” she said.

“Everyone was scared. Jessica drove well. She was stopping on the shoulder, and I thought the truck had slowed down enough… I don't know if it was the wind speed or something, but I flew, I fell out of the truck , and that's when the trailer ran over my foot, and the only thing I remember is flipping over on the sidewalk,” Green said.

Green now has two broken toes, as well as road burns on his face, shoulders and knee.

Chris Wilson Davis, owner of the Baby Susie's Chicken Fries food truck, said the truck is insured but is waiting to see how much money he will receive for damages.

Currently, Davis said the company is renting another truck to transport the traveling restaurant to other locations.
