Sullivan Fire now 75 percent contained | News

Update, 3:05 p.m.:

Officials say the Sullivan Fire is now 75 percent contained and is 138.5 acres.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening around 9 p.m.

It quickly spread east toward the neighborhood north of Wedekind Road.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

An investigation is currently being conducted by Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue and the Sparks Fire Department.

Five engines and a Type 2 team are still on site cleaning up.

Authorities say they will continue to send fire crews to the scene throughout the night and into tomorrow.

Full containment should take place on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Update, 11:36 a.m.:

According to authorities, the fire is now 50 percent contained.

A full lockdown is expected on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Fire crews are still on scene mopping up hot spots, trying to put out smoldering fires before it gets hotter and windier this afternoon or evening.

A bushfire that broke out behind Hug High School on Tuesday could be fully contained by Wednesday.

The 120-acre Sullivan Fire broke out after 9 p.m.

The Sparks Fire Department and Bureau of Land Management have jurisdiction over the fire.

Sparks police reported several accidents in the area caused by spectators. People are asked to avoid the area of ​​Sullivan Lane and El Rancho Drive.

“Do not try to drive to see the fire,” the statement read in part.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but so far no injuries have been reported and no buildings are threatened.
