Structures threatened by new fire in Washington County, evacuation order lifted

CENTER, Washington County Crews are still working to put out a wildfire in southern Utah that started Sunday afternoon.

The Central Fire is burning 15 acres in the town of Central in Washington County. Agencies from across Washington County have responded to the scene with air support. Utah Fire Info also reported that some structures are threatened by the fire.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the fire is located around Center Street. They say to avoid that area completely.

Evacuation notice

At 7:16 p.m. Sunday evening, an evacuation advisory was lifted, according to a Facebook post from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Update 7:16pm: The evacuation order has been lifted. Firefighters will still be on scene and working. We ask everyone to be patient with them and give them plenty of time to work. Thank you all for your help.

Update: The Vey LDS Church is open to temporarily accommodate those affected by the evacuation order. The current evacuation order is between Center Street and Mule Deer Rd, and east of Mountain View Dr.

Fire in Central around Centre Street. Please avoid the area. Firefighters and deputies are working on scene. We appreciate your patience.

American Red Cross of Utah volunteers set up an evacuation shelter in nearby Veyo at 176 E. Center Street, home to a building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . It will continue to serve as a temporary shelter for those affected by the evacuation order.
