Commercial structure fire in Monterey County causes estimated $100,000 damage

The Monterey Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a commercial structure Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. along Garden Road. Upon arrival, fire crews determined that smoke was coming from the roof of the building as well as the interior of the structure. Once they were able to locate the origin of the fire in the attic, they extinguished it and minimized the spread. Other responding agencies included the Seaside Fire Department, AMR and PG&E. The building suffered moderate structural damage, with an initial loss estimated at approximately $100,000. No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious, but remains under investigation.
