A portion of Findlay Street near Findlay Market was closed after a man was reportedly shot Sunday afternoon, according to Cincinnati Police Lt. John Cunningham.

A stretch of Findlay Street near Findlay Market has reopened after a man was shot Sunday afternoon.

The man was shot in the leg in the 1800 block of Elm Street in Over-the-Rhine shortly before 3 p.m., according to Cincinnati Police Lt. John Cunningham. As a result, police closed Findlay Street between Elm Street and Central Parkway, but it has since reopened and the scene is clear.

The extent of the man's injuries is unknown and no further information is available at this time, Cunningham added.

Claire Greweling, who works at Gia and nearby Blooms florist, said her friend who works at the market heard three pops. She and her colleagues initially thought it was construction noise. When they realized it was gunshots, they fled to another location.

“I still feel safe, but it’s unsettling,” Greweling said.

Police were seen with long guns entering a nearby church where the suspect allegedly fled, she said.

Joe Bailey was selling his original artwork and buttons at the market when he heard about the incident. As a longtime member of the Findlay Market community, Bailey also doesn't like the narrative that the market is unsafe.

“I don't like the stigma of 'it's not safe,'” he said.
