Storms tonight with milder numbers Sunday

Good Saturday night everyone. After weathering our thunderstorms this morning and a warm and humid afternoon, we are entering a First Alert weather day tonight as our cold front continues to work south through the Ozarks. This is because our cold front moving through the Ozarks will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms primarily during the evening hours, with a chance for some to be severe, with wind and hail being the main threats.

With a severe thunderstorm watch in place until 11:00 p.m. Saturday night, FutureCast will stick with the idea that scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue until things begin to calm down around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

After a quiet morning Sunday, our cold front will still be close to allow additional isolated or widely scattered thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon near the state line and across northern Arkansas. All of this expected activity should remain mostly below severe levels and end by sunset Sunday evening.

Behind our cold front, we will welcome a nice drop in temperatures. For Sunday, many of us will go from morning lows in the 70s to afternoon highs in the lower to mid 80s. That, along with lower humidity, will be nice as we wrap up your weekend.

Monday, another surge before the upper-level ridge builds back in could bring additional scattered showers and thunderstorms west of Highway 65 in the afternoon. Other than that, everyone should expect partly sunny skies Monday and afternoon high temperatures of 80 degrees.

Tuesday is looking to be a dry and sunny day. However, as we move through the center of the upper level ridge, we will be assured that the weather will return to warm and humid on Tuesday. Beginning Wednesday and into next weekend, the moving ridge will allow another storm system to give us periods of showers and thunderstorms to watch.

You can see in the forecast trend below that we will begin to see scattered thunderstorm chances on Wednesday, with the best chance of rain on July 4th.

Although the chances of rain next week don't look good for those with outdoor plans, I think there will be dry spells and things could still change between now and then. On the plus side, rain chances will take us from highs in the mid-90s on Wednesday to the lower 90s on July 4 and into the 80s next weekend.
